True Gospel

True GospelWhat is the true gospel?

Many half-truths and lies parade as the true gospel today. What is the true gospel? More precisely, what is the Biblically true gospel?

In its most concise form, the true gospel is the following:

1. Holy God set perfectly holy standards, which we fail to meet, and this makes us sinners.

2. As sinners, we deserve to die and go to hell - this is the bad news.

3. God so loved us that He voluntarily died on the cross to pay our death penalty for us; if we truly
believe this, we will live and go to heaven - this is the true gospel, the good news.

Buddhism has nirvana. Islam has paradise. Most religions, even Juche, promise a nice afterlife for those who perform well enough according to a set of rules, although what is 'well enough' is never specified. The true gospel is fundamentally different from all religions and pseudo Christian beliefs.

The true gospel identifies the criterion for entering heaven as purity, not performance. Just as an Olympic athlete who wins 10 gold medals and then commits murders will be found guilty and punished for murdering irrespective of his gold medal performances, sinners will pay for their sins irrespective of their performances in the other facets of their lives.

The Bible says the penalty for sin is death (see below), which makes all of us death row inmates. The only way for us to be spared the death penalty is if someone else pays it for us. But sinners die to pay their own death penalty; only a sinless person can die to pay it for others. Since the latter does not exist, God in His love became man, lived a sinless life and then died on the cross to pay our death penalty for us. The Bible says that those who sincerely believe having been thus purified go to heaven while those who reject Jesus' sacrificial gift go to hell, as follows:

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)

"The wages of sin is death but, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23)

"The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 13:41-42)

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)

What about doing good works?

Christians do good works not to gain salvation but to obey, thank and honor Jesus for having saved us. Believing that good works saves is akin to death row inmates believing that good behavior while on death row will gain their freedom.
