China And Bible

China Bible

Accessing Amity Bibles may be the cheapest way to supply the underground Christians in China with Bibles, but Bible smuggling organizations should keep smuggling for four reasons.

First, Bible smuggling remains the only way to deliver Bibles to Christians in other countries that still prohibit all Bible printing and now need smuggled Bibles more than China does.

Second, Bibles for children should continue to be smuggled into and printed inside China until the Chinese government permits Amity to print them.

Third, it will take some time for China's underground house church Christians to feel comfortable buying Bibles from Three Self church bookstores.

Fourth, a cautionary eye should be kept on the Chinese government. If it starts to restrict Amity’s printing volume or reverts to requiring traceable “registration” to buy Amity Bibles, there should be a resurgence Bible smuggling into China. (Until then, what China needs more are Bible teachers.)

For its part, the Chinese government should admit what it already knows: Christianity is good for China and even helps them govern by instilling virtue and fighting corruption. China needs Christianity especially today to counter the negative effects of unbridled capitalism.

Therefore, the Chinese government should stop trying to control and restrict Christianity. It should allow Amity to sell Bibles to anyone without preference, print children's Bibles, and allow all Bibles to be sold in regular bookstores. The situation is far more grave here.
